From The Cradle
I have had a craving for music my whole life. As a young child, my father would take me to see Indian musicals at an Olympia Cinema Hall in my country, Nigeria where I was born. From primary school onward, I sang in groups and represented my class, inter-college musical competitions and eventually my state on several occasions in music and dance competitions as a lead singer. I loved music so much that at a very young age I would carry a radio cassette player with me in my school hostel, classroom and about in the school where I was being trained as a teenage trainee teacher, recording myself singing and playing my songs to the other students who cared to listen.
At an early age I listened to artists like Jim Reeves, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong records and other soft blues frequently heard played around me. After giving my life to Jesus Christ, I joined the choir in my local church for eight years and also the choir of the Christian fellowship at the bank where I was working as a graduate banker. I also carried out praise and worship street evangelism on public transport systems as it usually took me over an hour’s journey to get to the office. In as much as I tried to leave music for other professions, music never left me, it journeyed along with me. Purpose never dies; it has life and fire, when it’s ignited it lightens up.
